Tips for a Healthy Lifestyle

Starting Gym exercises:

Are meant for older adults who are unable to use the gym. As we get older we lose muscle strength & are unable to lift day to day products, we find it difficult to bend & twist & often lose balance. To remedy this we can do the following easy movements 5-10 times daily at home
    Neck rotation
  • Arm rotation
  • Wrist rotation & finger stretches
  • Waist rotation
  • Spot walking for 5 minutes
  • Take support & stand on each leg for 30 seconds
  • Deep knee bends or squats
  • Ankle rotation
  • Deep breathing

Stress Management

Avoid isolation:

  • Most often the departure of children from the home or the death of a partner results in people living alone. Living alone & being socially isolated can be harmful to your health & cause, depression & cognitive decline. The following tips can bring people, & friends back into your life.
  • Make it a point to call, email & contact family & friends every week.
  • Consider asking a roommate, or sharing your flat with a friend. This is also helpful in medical emergencies
  • Join social groups such as, going to church, joining the choir, joining a walking group, or visit the club regularly.
  • Whatever strategy you choose, human contact on a daily basis, is as important to your health as exercise &diet

Avoid Addictions

Medical usage of Marijuana:

  • Marijuana is now legal for medical usage in the USA, but its usage is not as well studied or documented as compared to normal medication.
  • Marijuana is smoked, used in electronic cigarettes or consumed orally as candy.
  • It can cause the heart to beat faster, cause blood pressure to rise & make you susceptible to a stroke.
  • The cannabiods contained in marijuana can also negatively impact heart related medication. However marijuana is helpful in pain relief, but its usage should be prescribed by a physician.


Lower triglycerides:

  • Reduce all sweet drinks.
  • Avoid simple carbohydrates (rice, pasta, bread).
  • Avoid saturated fats (red meats, butter, cheese).
  • Avoid fried, eat grilled.
  • Not more than one alcohol drink a day, preferably none.
  • Avoid large meals.
  • Do not skip meals.
  • Do not smoke.
